The use of magnesium fluoride as a support for nickel has permitted us to obtain a catalyst of high activity and selectivity for hydrogenation of benzene to cyclohexane under atmospheric pressure. The effect of nickel content and metal precursor on the nickel catalysts surface structures and their catalytic behavior in the benzene hydrogenation reaction has been studied.

Cracked-gasoline has 90% sulfur content of end-product – market vehicle gasoline produced at a refinery. So market gasoline production complying with standard Euro V requirements is directly related to providing cracked-gasoline with sulfur content no higher than 10 – 15 ppm.

Although methanol is thought to be an excellent automotive fuel, it has a smaller volumetric fuel value than gasoline. The catalytic decomposition of methanol into syngas, prior to its combustion in the engine, improves its fuel value by approximately 14%. Palladium and platinum on modified alumina supports demonstrate the necessary qualities for this process.

Methanol is oxidised to methanol in the presence of a hot catalyst. The catalyst provides a surface for the alcohol and oxygen to react, thus speeding up the reaction. The most effective catalyst is made of platinum but copper will also work well.

The synthesis of hydrogen from hydrocarbons through the steam reforming of methanol on Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalyst has been investigated. This process is assigned to be one of the promising alternatives for fuel cell hydrogen process source, Hydrogen synthesis from methanol can be carried out by means of methanol steam reforming which is a gas phase catalytic reaction between methanol and water, in this research, the Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalyst prpated by the fry impregnation was used.
